Last year, we celebrated the beginning of our centennial year with a series of events in and around New York City that included a multifaith service and gala dinner at The Riverside Church.
We know not everyone had the ability to join us in person for these events, so I’m pleased to share with you now a new video that features moments from those events, interviews with people in attendance, and offers a look back on the past 100 years of FOR‘s work (with lots of great photos!) and a vision for the future.
At the service, led by Executive Director Rev. Kristin Stoneking, we were honored to hear from Arun Gandhi — Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson — who speaks at length about the impact of FOR and it’s potential for the future. In footage from the gala dinner, FORBayard Rustin Fellow Rev. Osagyefo Sekou delved deep into the “age of Ferguson” and the role of faith-based nonviolent resistance in pushing for racial justice and liberation.
Watch the video now to hear the remarks of Kristin, Arun and Osagyefo.
In under five minutes, the video manages to communicate the importance of FOR, both in the past 100 years and in the future.
The campaigns featured in the video are ones we know many of you were involved in directly: the Black-led freedom struggle, the Palestinian struggle for liberation, working for peace in Iran, and supporting the Movement for Black Lives.
After a century of important work, we’re not done. Later this year, we’ll gather in the Pacific Northwest for a centennial conference — and you’re invited!
Other ways you can get involved:
- We think this video is a great way to introduce the Fellowship of Reconciliation. Consider sharing the video with your friends and colleagues and let them know why FOR is important to you! You can share the video directly on Facebook, or share the YouTube video on other social media.
- We have big plans for 2016 — and for the next century. But we can’t do the work without your financial support. Make a tax-deductible donation to FOR so we can budget for even more effective campaigns!
