JOB OPENING: On-Site Property Manager


The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR USA), founded in 1915, is the oldest interfaith peace and justice organization in North America. With chapters and national staff located throughout the United States and headquarters in Nyack, New York, FOR-USA is part of an international FOR network with branches in more than 40 countries. As an interfaith organization, FOR-USA’s mission is to organize, train, and grow a diverse movement that welcomes all people of conscience to end structures of violence and war, and create peace through the transformative power of nonviolence.

On Site Property Manager (Part Time, 14-18 hours/week) The Property Manager supports the work of FOR-USA out of the New York headquarters as on- site staff. The Property Manager ensures that FOR property and facility are maintained and managed. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the larger mission of the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

Overview of Responsibilities:


  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping Director of Operations informed of all critical issues.
  • Represent the organization externally, as necessary.
  • Acts as on-site presence in New York headquarters.

Property Management

  • Primary point person for house users and tenants
  • Manage lawn, garden and property maintenance
  • Keep kitchen and other public areas tidy, load and unload dishwasher as needed, light laundry
  • Utilize and support volunteers as necessary
  • Liaison with vendors such as waste and recycling, Orange and Rockland, housekeeping
  • Maintenance of FOR car, including making sure tank is regularly filled, periodic train or airport runs
  • Handle lock outs, power outages and other emergency situations
  • Regular assessment of property and grounds of maintenance needs, communicate requirements to DOO as needed
  • Liaison with vendors for repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain paperwork (leases, notices, rent changes, maintenance scheduling, compliance, etc)
  • Follow up with house users or tenants when rent is overdue
  • Water plants


  • Experience with property management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with particular skill in cross-cultural competency
  • Able to use email, word documents, spreadsheets and Dropbox
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills; self reliant, good problem solver
  • Experience either as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization a plus
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
  • Position requires that you are able to walk up and down stairs

Reports to: Director of Operations

Compensation: Must live on site in Nyack. Third floor, 1 bedroom/1 bathroom, living room/dining room apartment in large house overlooking Hudson River is provided as compensation. Deck and storage space included. FOR is a smoke-free environment.
