The Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF), was founded in November 1939 by Bishop Paul Jones, William Appleton Lawrence (of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts), and New Yorkers Mrs. Henry Hill Pierce and John Nevin Sayre as the Episcopal Pacifist Fellowship, an association of pacifist members of the Protestant Episcopal Church. The organization sought to discover and unite pacifists within the church and to influence its membership regarding Christianity and peace. Just before his death, Bishop Paul Jones helped resettle Jews displaced by the Nazis and advocated a more understanding U.S. relationship with Japan.
