The Rev. Christopher Ney is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has also served United Church congregations. Currently, he is pastor of Central Congregational Church (UCC) in Newburyport, MA.
Born and raised in Allentown, PA., Rev. Ney brings more than 12 years of nonprofit work experience, including the War Resisters League, ACORN, Christians for Peace in El Salvador, the Coalition for the Homeless, and JusticeWorks Community (an advocacy organization founded by clergy, ex-prisoners and their families).
He is currently completing a PhD in Practical Theology at Boston University School of Theology with his doctoral research concentrated on the resources of the Christian tradition to build cross cultural understanding and examining an ecumenical partnership between the United Church of Christ and the Pentecostal Church of Chile.
Prior to his current call, Rev. Ney has served at churches in New York City and greater Boston and has served as a teaching assistant in the Conflict Transformation Program at Boston University. A graduate of Earlham College with a degree in Peace and Global Studies, Rev. Ney also earned the Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. His studies focused on liberation theology and independent research on a Chilean human rights movement, applying nonviolent direct action to protest torture.
Outside of professional activities, Rev. Ney enjoys spending time with his teenage children. He is grateful to live close to the ocean and tries (mostly unsuccessfully) to grow some of his own food in a vegetable garden.
