The Chicago metro area chapter of the Fellowship of Reconciliation is currently on indefinite hiatus, following the sudden, untimely death of its coordinator, Rev. Sam Smith, in December 2014.

Chicago FOR organizes educational and advocacy events on current social issues, sponsors workshops on active nonviolence, and works with ally groups in the community to create a more peaceful and just world. The Chicago FOR chapter is especially engaged with FOR’s I Will Not Kill campaign, focused on helping young people choose peaceful and non-military careers and providing counter-recruitment to the U.S. Armed Forces in schools and at events like the annual Cornerstone Music Festival.

Members of the Chicago FOR chapter live and work in all areas of the metro Chicago region, and its meetings in recent years have been based in the western suburbs of the city. The chapter also works with young leaders in local colleges, especially at DePaul University through its Service Learning office.
