Fellowship of Reconciliation USA (FOR-USA) Founded

  • When conscription began in Britain in 1916 and in the United States many FOR members refused military service. Many of the members of the FOR were accused for supporting of being pro-German because of their peace endeavors and this led even to physical assaults of the members of FOR.
  • A committed pacifist, AJ Muste joined the Fellowship of Reconciliation shortly after its foundation in 1916.He participated in a peace demonstration late in the summer of 1916, with US entry into the First World War looming and some parishioners withdrawing from his congregation.
