The Ahmaud Arbery Files: IFOR in Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on Truth, Justice and Reparations

The UN Special Rapporteur on Truth, Justice and Reparations recently issued a report entitled “Memorialization processes in the context of serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law: the fifth pillar of transitional justice” (pdf below). In anticipation of an interactive dialogue with the Rapporteur, the representative in Geneva of the global Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) put out a call for comments, data, updates.

Responding to the call, four documents (pdfs below) were submitted describing:

  • A community remembrance project in Coastal Georgia, following the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, being organized by
    • (1) the Center for Jubilee, Reconciliation, and Healing of Coastal Georgia together with
    • (2) the Georgia chapter of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA and
  • Efforts to abolish citizen’s arrest in the State of Georgia and in jurisdictions throughout the United States, on behalf of especially Georgia State Representative Carl Scott Gilliard.

The Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent issued a Report dated August 21, 2020 (copy attached). In anticipation of an interactive dialogue with the Working Group, the representative in Geneva of the global Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) put out a call especially for data on the ground.

Responding to the call, the attached document was submitted to supply additional data in particular in connection with paragraphs 8 & 43 and the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.
