WHAT YOU CAN DO

 

·         Circulate this petition and the accompanying talking points. Urge people to sign, then send originals of the completed petition forms to the Fellowship of Reconciliation, 521 N. Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960.

 

·         Send copies to your Congressional Representatives (Find mail, telephone, fax and email addresses and numbers at http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ . Or organize delegations to take the petitions personally to your representatives.

 

·         Phone and e-mail Congressional representatives and urge them to act on the issues raised in the petition and talking points. Make sure they understand that you oppose the occupation on moral and/or religious grounds, as well as political.

 

·         Convene community meetings to educate your friends and neighbors about the situation and options in Iraq.

 

·         Attend events in your area at which Congressional and Presidential candidates are speaking and challenge them about Iraq. Presidential candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry's campaign itineraries are available at http://www.georgewbush.com/Calendar/ and http://www.johnkerry.com/events/

 

·         Ask ministers of religion and leaders of faith communities to fulfill their moral and religious obligations and speak out about violence, abuse of prisoners and occupation.

 

·         Participate in national lobby days on Iraq. FOR will issue Action Alerts about upcoming lobby days. Visit www.forusa.org or other peace organization sites such as www.unitedforpeace.org to stay abreast of these events.

 

·         Start organizing a presence at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Democratic Convention is July 26 to 29 in Boston, and the Republican Convention is August 29 to September 4 in New York City.

 

·         Use the petition and the points it raises to urge people to register to vote in November.
