Americans send apologies,
prayers for peace to the Iraqi people

News Conference:
9: 30 a.m. October 20, 2004.
National Press Club, Washington, D.C

Please join The Fellowship of Reconciliation at a News Conference to present hundreds of messages of apology and goodwill from more than 2,000 Americans to the Iraqi people.

The messages are from ordinary Americans – men, women and children – who have taken photographs of themselves holding signs expressing their grief and shame at what has been done to Iraq in their name. These heartfelt messages express sorrow at the terrible loss of life and the destruction that followed the U.S.-led invasion and occupation of Iraq. They express love and compassion towards Iraqis and a desire for friendship and reconciliation.

Most of the hand-written signs are in English, but some are in Arabic. They come from more than 100 towns and cities all over the United States.

A large selection of photographs has been put on CDs for distribution to the Arab and international media, in the hope that they will reach the Iraqi public. Please help us deliver these messages by attending the news conference, where there will be opportunities to learn about the project, view the photographs and interview some of the people who participated.

When: 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 20

Where: The Zenger Room, National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, Washington D.C. 20045.
