Ways to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9-11
FOR’s partner groups and affiliates are offering initiatives and special tributes to mark the10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Here are a few of the ways that individuals and organizations are commemorating the tragic events with efforts toward healing and reconciliation.
URI (United Religions Initiative) has issued a new tool kit to promote religious tolerance and respect for diversity in the United States around the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. The ideas in the tool kit are culled from the work of URI’s nearly 50 member organizations in the United States and Canada who have been healing divided communities and promoting interfaith cooperation for more than ten years. The download for the tool kit can be found on this page of the URI website.
Link Media, an independent media organization whose mission is to engage, inform, and inspire viewers to become involved in the world, will be Remembering September 11th with a full day of special programming. Starting at midnight (PST) on 9/11/11, Link TV will be airing programs that navigate the darkest consequences as well as others that focus on stories of forgiveness, growth, and transformation. Browse this page for more information and airtimes.
The Metta Center for Nonviolence will host a webinar on 9-11-11 from 4-5 PM (PST) or 7-8 (EST) called Peace from Within: Finding and Sharing our Deepest Resources. The webinar will introduce a proven method of meditation that enables the practitioner to resolve inner conflicts, unlock creative energies, and gain insight into the purpose of his/her life. The second part of the webinar will share practices, most of them based on Gandhi’s nonviolence, that enable practitioners to bring new found resources into play in the world. You may reserve your seat for the webinar on the home page of their website.
September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows launched a new website in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the attacks. With the incentive that it is “more pressing than ever that we on this shared earth learn the vital lessons of how to live together peacefully,” the website called 911 stories -our voices, our choices gives expression to the Peaceful Tomorrow members who chose to turn grief into actions for peace and justice. Also, for those living in the tri-state region, The Group Theater Too will present the play NEW YORK by David Rimmer with part of the proceeds going to September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.
