A call from Iran: No Weapon of Mass Destruction.
29 June is the anniversary of the gas attack on Sardasht* and also Iran’s National Day to Call for a Ban
on Chemical Weapons.
To commemorate the occasion and help prevent future wars, the Society for Chemical Weapons Victims
Support (SCWVS), the Veterans and War Victims Organization, and the Tehran Peace Museum have
planned a four-day exhibit in Tehran: “Messengers of Peace!”
We believe everyone can benefit from the program. We especially encourage media, advocacy and
policy communities, and international organizations to support the cause of peace by participating in the
opening ceremony.
Delegations from Hiroshima, Vietnam, Halabja, and Ieper-Belgium (where the first gas attack took
place in WWI ), along with other international guests, will display their photos, posters and art work
about the health and environmental consequences of chemical and nuclear weapons.
For full details, please contact Shahriar Khateri, Director of Public and International Relations, Society
for Chemical Weapons Victims Support at:
Shahriar.khateri@gmail.com or 0912 389 0468.
The main purposes of the event are:
To raise awareness about the consequences of war and promote a culture of peace,
To highlight the extreme horrors of weapons of mass destruction, and
To initiate an international network of WMD victims to advocate peace and justice.
Over a period of four days, survivors of chemical attacks and veterans from Iran, Halabja, and Vietnam,
along with survivors of atomic bombardment from Hiroshima, are scheduled to present eye witness
accounts.
The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday 29 June from 5-7 pm at the Niavaran Center —
Farhangsara - (www.nacfiran.com) located on Pasdaran Avenue, opposite Niavaran Park.
The exhibit will be open to the public through Friday 2 July from 9 am to 6 pm.
We are pleased to invite you to attend the opening ceremony and see the exhibition. We hope you will
also invite your colleagues and associates to this unique event. Our Iranian and international peace
advocates need encouragement and are looking forward to meeting you.
