Be on our side. We are on the side of peace and justice. End U.S. military aid to Israel
The Fellowship of Reconciliation is endorsing the Be On Our Side campaign. Be On Our Side promotes a positive and productive U.S. policy toward Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Moreover, the campaign mission resonates with FOR’s Demilitarization of Life and Land in the Middle East. Ending military aid to Israel is the core point of “Be on our side,” which will launch in New York City on Sept. 5. Please join us in supporting Be On Our Side campaign.
The Be On Our Side NYC Mass Transit Campaign
“Be on our side. We are on the side of peace and justice. End U.S. military aid to Israel.”
These words come from Palestinians and Israelis. Over the past nine months, this constructive mass transit advertising campaign has run successfully in four major U.S. cities. It is reaching a huge, new audience whose only previous exposure to the long status quo on Israel-Palestine is likely the flawed and skewed representation in mainstream media.
Ad photos show parents with their children, while text directs riders to the national website. There, viewers can learn how U.S. military aid to Israel ($30 billion over the next 10 years) is bad for Palestinians, bad for Americans, and bad for Israelis.
With partial seed funding from the original campaign in Chicago, we will have a one-month pilot campaign during the UN General Assembly session. It will comprise 25 large posters inside subway stations mostly in Manhattan; it will be supported by extensive outreach activities.
This campaign comes to New York on September 5, and the NY Metropolitan Transit Authority has approved the campaign.
We need organizational endorsers and volunteers
We want endorsing organizations (interfaith and peace) and volunteers to demonstrate that the message has grassroots support in New York and to undertake outreach. The national website provides in-depth thematic detail of the campaign as well as its national scope. Please join us.
ENDORSING ORGANIZATION: Please become an endorser to show your support for the campaign. We welcome any organization that wants to endorse the campaign to have its official representative send an endorsement (website link optional) to us at beonoursidenyc@gmail.com
INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS: We plan to leaflet and demonstrate for 30 days. We need volunteers to distribute materials near subways and at other events and locations. With 18 separate New York subway locations in four boroughs, we have places to engage as many volunteers as choose to step forward. You may send your name and e-mail (and organization if you wish) to beonoursidenyc@gmail.com. Include anything you would like to say about your availability mornings, afternoons, weekdays/weekends and general locations from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3.
Current sponsoring organizations, as of Aug. 7: Brooklyn for Peace, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Jews Say No!, Jewish Voice for Peace-NY Chapter, Peace Action-Staten Island, WESPAC.
Endorsing organizations: Adalah-NY, additional organizations to be announced.
Contributions
Of course we need funds for the ads and printing and a little for supplies. We have $6,000 of $12,000 needed.
You may make a tax-deductible contribution with your credit or debit card via PayPal, or by sending a check (write “Be On Our Side-NYC” in the memo) to WESPAC Foundation, 52 Broadway, White Plains, NY 10603. Thank you!
