39th anniversary of Earth Day
In Celebration of the 39th Anniversary of Earth Day join us at FOR as we commit to being more mindful of others and the environment. Feel free to add your own!
"10 Personal Greening Steps to Celebrate Earth Day"
- Spend 39 minutes this evening without the lights on (in accordance with Earth Hour, which was observed this year on March 28).
- Bicycling 39 kilometers or walking 3.9 miles.
- Or, take a 39 minute walk to a local park or in the woods to appreciate the emergence of spring and the way in which the earth recycles last year’s growth and decay into this year’s blossoms and greenery.
- Spend 39 minutes gardening: begin by creating either a garden of herbs or vegetables.
- Spend 39 minutes of a sit-down meal with someone else — bringing right relationship into our understanding of ecological wholeness.
- Use 39 minutes of active meditation identifying the local farmers and artisans to support in your local community.
- Use 39 minutes dedicated to cleaning out your computer file folders. (Content cluttering our server leads to increased crashes and sluggish performance.)
- Spend 39 minutes dedicated to recycling paper and other materials in your office.
- Spend 39 minutes digging further in to Peter G. Brown and Geoffrey Garver’s Right Relationship: Building a Whole Earth Economy.
- Making a $39 donation to FOR to support our ongoing commitment — as identified in FOR's Statement of Purpose — to "Endeavor to show respect for personality and reverence for all creation."
